5 tips to beat Blue Monday (and get through the winter)

Do you always feel a bit less good about yourself after the holidays? As if that winter slump has really caught up with you suddenly? You're not alone. Today is Blue Monday, and that name didn't come about by chance. The third Monday of the year turns out to be the most depressing day of the year. Whether that's really the case is debatable, but the fact is that winter is a less cheerful period for many people. The days are short, we often find ourselves in the dark, and honestly, we're already looking forward to that first spring sunshine. And then there are those New Year's resolutions that may have turned out to be a bit too ambitious by the end of the month.

However you look at it, January is not exactly the happiest month of the year. That's why today we're sharing our favorite tips (tested by ourselves) to send some extra inspiration and motivation your way. Together, let's get through those dark winter months! Ready to let the sunshine in?

Go outside

The cold and rain may be slightly less inviting than a warm summer day, but going outside works wonders for your mindset. By the way, we find an icy winter walk in the sunshine truly delightful here. A bit of extra vitamin D is more than welcome, right? And that post-walk tea to warm up tastes even better.

Eat healthy

If there's one thing we can fully endorse, it's eating healthy! And even though it's often more challenging in winter than when it's warm outside (hello casseroles, stews, and mashed potatoes), putting extra vegetables and fruit on your shopping list really makes you feel better. How about this delicious banana bread or this ...? Enjoy!

Move your body

While you may feel less inclined to exercise now (admit it, when it's cold, we usually prefer to just snuggle under a blanket on the couch), moving can make a difference right now. Exercise gives you more energy, and you'll feel better afterward. And you don't necessarily have to go outside; exercising indoors is just as effective. Oh, and doing it with a friend makes it a cozy date.

Make fun plans

Whether you make plans for the weekend or book your next trip, having something fun to look forward to always works. This way, you immediately have something to anticipate, and the winter feels less long. Go for a nice brunch, venture out together, or explore new places nearby. Want to start a new hobby? Now is the perfect time!

Relax

Spending a day indoors can also be very cozy. Start the day with your favorite breakfast, nestle into the couch with a good book, and take a relaxing bath (or a steamy shower). Lowering your heart rate will make you feel calmer and better.
